There’s no denying it. T-Sides drinks the Dan “Destroyer” Bejar kool-aid. So imagine my surprise when I discovered that there’s a new Destroyer track floating around the internet that I hadn’t heard!

I hate to say it, but this track makes me a tiny bit nervous. It’s not quite as exciting as so much of his work. It’s really pared down and, dare I say it, more accessible. This could be a good thing when it comes to garnering more attention for his work, which is probably more widely recognized than most people realize, thanks to his prolificness (New Pornographers, Destroyer, Swan Lake, Hello, Blue Roses), but could be a negative thing if it means he’s began to devolve instead of evolve. I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt, though, because with his output of late, it’s hard to believe he can be anything but fantastic. I’ll be keeping the faith until March 18th, when Trouble in Dreams drops, courtesy of Merge.

O, no, I am with you on your wariness of the new destroyer album. This is so straightforward! And where are the jarring/interesting/poet-like lyrics that make me hang on Dan’s words? His voice is ok, but it’s that ability to string together obscure and descriptive words that has always made destroyer one of my favorites. Well, let’s wait and see…no need to give up quite yet. This does sound like a digression from the sound of Rubies…it would fit on your blues..maybe.

Oh good, I’m glad that I’m not the only one. Definitely no need to give up – let’s just hope they chose the first single poorly.
